To avoid delays in processing, please ensure that the registration application is filled out completely and appropriate fees accompany the form. Incorrect or missing information can cause processing times to more than double and will be dependant upon mailing time for errors and responses from the necessary parties.

To register a new partbred foal or a previously unregistered older partbred horse, an application for registration must be completed. The recorded owner of the dam at the time of foaling is always considered the first owner of the foal. (Have you leased the dam? If so, see rules below). If the foal is to be registered in an ownership other than the owner of the dam at the time of foaling, the transfer section must also be completed and transfer fees apply  - ($30.00 plus gst - member fees).  The registration fee depends on the age of the horse and on the membership status of either the recorded owner of the dam at the time of foaling or the new owner of the foal.  Refer to the fee schedule for prices.

Canadian Owned/US Registered Partbreds
Effective immediately
, Arabian or partbred Arabian parents of Partbred foals being registered in Canada must have current Canadian registration papers. The regular fee for an IAHA/AHA registered Partbred to obtain Canadian papers is $55.00/$65.00 plus 6% gst. *January 1st, 2007 - a Special Rate of $35.00/$45.00 plus gst has been implemented for Canadian owned Partbreds who are registered with IAHA/AHA and are being transferred to CPAR into the exact same ownership that appears on the US certificate. The horse cannot be an import (has not resided outside of Canada) to qualify for this special rate.

Determining if your Partbred Arabian/Anglo-Arabian qualifies for registration with CPAR

In order to qualify for registration as a Half-Arabian one parent must be a purebred registered Arabian. The other parent may be a horse of another breed, a grade, or a horse of Arabian extraction (ie: an Arabian cross / must not be purebred Arabian), but must be a horse (donkeys, mules, etc do not qualify). The signature of the owners of both the Sire & Dam will be required in their corresponding sections, even if one is a Grade. A parent listed as UNKNOWN will not be accepted.

In order to qualify for registration as an Anglo-Arabian the following requirements must be met:

a) the animal must be the offspring of a purebred registered Arabian and a registered Thoroughbred and/or

b) an Anglo-Arabian registered with CPAR and/or

c) any combination of a or b above is such that the horse shall have no more than 75% nor less than 25% of Thoroughbred or Arabian blood.

Transported Semen – Partbreds/Anglo-Arabians conceived using transported semen do not have to be parentage verified prior to registration. As with all registrations, regardless of the method of breeding, parentage verification may be required if there is a question regarding parentage or identity of the foal.

Leased Mares
The CAHR does not recognize leases and upon application for registration, the RECORDED owner(s) of the dam must sign in the appropriate sections. In order to be shown as the BREEDER, an Assignment of Breeder Designation may be filled out and submitted along with the registration application, however this only applies to who will be shown as the foal's breeder and does not entitle the bearer to ownership of the foal. The Recorded owner of the Dam at the time of foaling will need to sign the Foaling section and if a transfer is to take place they must also sign the Transfer of Ownership section at the bottom of the registration application or provide a proper bill of sale. A transfer fee will apply.
