To register a new purebred foal or a previously unregistered older purebred horse, an application for registration must be completed. The recorded owner of the dam at the time of foaling is always considered the first owner of the foal. If the foal is to be registered in another ownership, the transfer section must also be completed and a transfer fee applies ($30.00 plus gst). (If
you have Leased a Mare see: Leased Mares
below). The registration fee depends on the age of the horse and on the membership status of either the recorded owner of the dam at the time of foaling or the new owner of the foal. Parentage verification by DNA typing is mandatory and is not included in the registration fee. Refer to the fee schedule for prices.
Upon receipt of a completed application form and correct fees, a DNA kit will be issued for parentage verification purposes. The registration fee does not include the cost for this kit. Parentage must be verified before a certificate will be issued. (For foals born in 2002 or
after, DNA testing is mandatory to verify parentage and both parents must be DNA tested. Bloodtyping
may only be used in certain special cases for foals born prior to 2002). Please note: Most labs no longer process blood types and the lab currently used by the CAHR is the last known facility to offer bloodtype analysis. They have informed us that this service may not be offered after
December, 2008.
Cancellation of Pending Transactions: All pending transactions (registrations, transfers, etc.) will be held for a maximum of 12 months from the date they are processed. Any transaction that is not completed within this time frame will be cancelled without further notice and
additional cancellation charges will be applied to the account of the processing owner. If a foal registration is cancelled and the owner wishes to
re-apply for registration at a later date, a newly completed application for registration will be required along
with the current fees that are in effect at the time the new application is received. If a transfer of ownership is cancelled, the certificate of registration for the horse will be temporarily suspended until all requirements are met.
This change is being instituted in an attempt to decrease Registry costs as we pay a processing fee of 50 cents US per transaction to the Arabian Horse
Association for each month that a transaction remains in the system. Your assistance in completing your transactions in a timely manner is greatly appreciated.
LEASED MARES
The CAHR does not recognize leases and upon application for registration, the RECORDED owner(s) of the dam must sign in the appropriate sections. In order to be shown as the BREEDER, an
Assignment of Breeder Designation may be filled out and submitted along with the registration application, however this only applies to who will be shown as the foal's breeder and does not entitle the bearer to ownership of the foal. The Recorded owner of the Dam at the time of foaling will need to sign the Foaling section and if a transfer is to take place they must also sign the Transfer of Ownership section at the bottom of the registration application or provide a proper bill of sale. A transfer fee will apply.
RUSH SERVICE / COURIER CHARGE
RUSH SERVICE - As of April 30th, 2009, Rush Service Fee of $40.00 plus GST will apply for any rushed work. For transfers of ownership, this fee will include a processing time of 2 working days and faxing a copy of a certificate of registration when completed. In the case of foal applications, the fee will include faxing or mailing a DNA or blood typing kit within 2 working days, corresponding with the lab for rush parentage results and faxing a copy of the certificate when ready. The certificate will be mailed by regular mail unless the owner pays an additional courier charge. This service is guaranteed only if all information and fees are received when the work is first processed.
COURIER CHARGE - A Courier Charge of $20.00 plus GST will apply to send a certificate, a DNA kit or a blood typing kit by ExpressPost (2-4 day) delivery. The work will be processed in normal order of receipt and will be mailed when ready. This service is for people who want their documents mailed by a traceable method. The fee covers postage and administrative costs.
